Recreating History: BC Live Productions' Role in Disney+ 14-Hour Livestream
Young Woman and the Sea, now available on Disney+, tells the inspiring story of Trudy Ederle, the first woman to swim across the English Channel in 1926. Trudy's remarkable feat, completed in 14 hours and 31 minutes, is brought to life in this compelling film.
To celebrate the historic swim and the release of Young Woman and the Sea, Disney hosted an epic 14-hour-and-31-minute ambient room ‘lo-fi’ livestream. This unique event featured exclusive clips from the film, fascinating facts about Trudy, and her legendary swim, all set to the sounds of chillout beats and swirling ocean.
BC Live Productions played a crucial role in this celebration. Using Unreal Engine, we created a realistic ocean scene that captured the conditions Trudy faced during her swim. From customizable weather conditions like daylight, cloud cover, wave choppiness, and height, our scene mimicked the challenging environment of the English Channel. Additionally, a map in the lower right-hand corner of the screen tracked Trudy’s progress throughout this 14-hour-and-31-minute journey.
This immersive experience was streamed to the Walt Disney Studios’ YouTube channel. With the addition of lo-fi ambient music, we created a relaxing space for viewers to hang out, listen to music, and get a sense of what Trudy experienced nearly 100 years ago.
